Ciscomani Silent As DOGE Derails Social Security
Ciscomani is a Member of DOGE Caucus
TUCSON — Days after U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that only fraudsters would complain about not receiving Social Security payments on time, it was widely reported that billionaire Elon Musk and DOGE have undermined the Social Security Administration, leading to longer wait times, system crashes and delayed benefits.
Beginning on March 31, beneficiaries will be restricted from verifying their identities over the phone and must instead do so in-person—further burdening seniors and people with disabilities, especially those in rural areas, who are applying for benefits or changing their banking information.
Congressman Juan Ciscomani is a member of the DOGE Caucus that was created to oversee Musk's mission. He has yet to weigh in on the Social Security issue
According to the Washington Post:
“The federal agency that delivers $1.5 trillion a year in earned benefits to 73 million retired workers, their survivors, and poor and disabled Americans is engulfed in crisis — further undermining the already struggling organization’s ability to provide reliable and quick service to vulnerable customers, according to internal documents and more than two dozen current and former agency employees and officials, customers and others who interact with Social Security.”
"Arizonans worked their whole lives to access their Social Security benefits and then Congressman Ciscomani says nothing as Trump officials make it harder to access benefits and then call those who complain 'fraudsters,'" said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. "Congressman Ciscomani needs to stand up to DOGE and work to ensure that Arizonans get the benefits they earned in a timely manner."
