Schweikert & Ciscomani's Committee Releases Plan to Raise Retirement Age and Raise Drug Costs

PHOENIX —Congressmen David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani are members of the right-wing Republican Study Committee (RSC) that recently released a budget that aims to raise the retirement age and eliminate Medicare's ability to negotiate the price of prescription drugs.

According to the Huffington Post, “[i]ncreasing the retirement age amounts to reducing benefits for future retirees” which is akin to proposals that Congressman Schweikert has voted for for years, including voting 12 times to cut Social Security or Medicare.

This Republican budget proposal would also raise drug costs for seniors, including by stripping Medicare of its power to negotiate drug prices – a key provision that became law under the Inflation Reduction Act.

“Congressmen Schweikert and Ciscomani say they're looking out for Arizonans, but their committee's extreme budget would raise costs on seniors and force older Americans to work longer,” said Les Braswell with Honest Arizona. “Congressmen Schweikert and Ciscomani need to protect Social Security and Medicare and not vote to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act, which is already saving seniors money.”
