A Vote For GOP Budget Resolution Is A Slap in the Face to Arizonans

TUCSON — Honest Arizona Executive Director Andrea Moreno released the following statement urging Arizona’s congressional delegation to vote against the Republican budget resolution that makes drastic cuts to essential services, including health care and food assistance, that Arizonans rely on in order to pay for more tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations:

“Arizona leaders already know that the Republican budget plan is a bad deal for their constituents and could leave millions of Arizonans worse off.

Amid a week of protests across Tucson, Congressman Ciscomani urged Speaker Johnson to protect Medicaid, Pell Grants, and nutrition assistance that his constituents rely on to afford health care, food, and education. The budget resolution that Republicans put forward does the opposite of what Congressman Ciscomani asked for, and therefore, he knows he cannot vote for it without breaking a major promise to look out for the needs of his constituents.

Congressman Schweikert prides himself as a budget hawk, but the Republican budget resolution is one of the most expensive plans ever drafted: providing trillions in tax breaks for the richest Americans, cutting essential services while also anchoring future generations with trillions more in debt that Schweikert says he abhors. To be true to his word as a fiscal conservative and to represent the best interests of his constituents, Congressman Schweikert cannot in good faith vote for this budget.”
