At Protests Across State, Arizonans Demanded Congressmen Schweikert and Ciscomani Stop Funding Cuts to Food Assistance and Healthcare
PHOENIX — At protests across the state last week, Arizonans demanded that Congressmen Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert oppose cuts to health care, food assistance and other benefits to pay for even more tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and corporations. The actions demonstrate widespread opposition to the budget resolution House Republicans are set to vote on tomorrow that would make way for cuts to Medicaid, food assistance, and other programs to pay for tax breaks for corporations and billionaires.
Congressman Ciscomani even signed a letter with other Members of Congress saying that cuts to Medicaid would “would have serious consequences, particularly in rural and predominantly Hispanic communities where hospitals and nursing homes are already struggling to keep their doors open."
In Phoenix and Tucson on Monday, Arizonans protested against recent executive orders that cut funding for essential programs, caused massive confusion across the government, and threatened timely payment of nutrition assistance and benefits for farmers and ranchers.

“While Arizonans are worried about the cost of food and health care, Republicans in Congress are considering funding cuts to nutrition assistance and health care programs that would raise those costs even further just to give tax breaks to those at the very top,” said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. “Congressman Ciscomani and Schweikert need to stand up for Arizona families to lower costs and vote against legislation that cuts funding for the working class to give even more tax breaks to billionaires and corporations.”
“Arizonans are facing an attack on essential programs like Medicaid, SNAP, food assistance, and more– all lifeline programs that support Arizona families," said LUCHA Executive Director Alejandra Gomez. "Proposed budget cuts would shift coverage from working families while handing billionaires massive tax breaks. It is a betrayal to Arizonans that our elected politicians in Washington are actively attempting to steal $1 trillion in our tax dollars away from health care and food assistance to give tax handouts for their billionaire and corporate donors. Congressman Ciscomani has the power to stop this–he must reject these reckless cuts and stand with Arizona families."
