A Year After Overturning Roe, AZ Republicans Increase Attacks On Abortion Rights
PHOENIX — Honest Arizona executive director Andrea Moreno issued the following statement in recognition of the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court's unprecedented decision to upend nearly a half-century of precedent by overturning Roe v. Wade and its protection of abortion rights nationwide:
"Since the Supreme Court's extreme and unpopular decision to overturn Roe, Arizona Republican leaders have been in lockstep: trying to impose abortion restrictions passed during the Civil War and take away rights from women. Playing games with women's health and placing extreme restrictions on reproductive health care threatens lives. Arizonans have made clear that this kind of extremism is out of touch, and leaders need to stop undermining Arizonans' right to an abortion."
Congressmen Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert both voted for a bill earlier this year that would directly interfere with Arizona families’ ability to make their own health care decisions and threaten to put doctors in jail for providing care. Congressman Ciscomani also voted earlier this month to ban the delivery of an FDA-approved abortion medication.
