As AZ Supreme Court Considers Abortion Bans, Schweikert & Ciscomani Hold Extreme Views On Abortion That Could Increase Health Care Costs for Arizonans
PHOENIX — The Arizona Supreme Court is hearing arguments today surrounding competing abortion bans, including an all-out abortion ban enacted during the Civil War. Congressmen David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani have extreme abortion views that would undermine abortion care access and could raise health care costs for millions of Arizona women.
According to experts, Arizona women would face some of the highest barriers to accessing abortion in a post-Roe America and Republicans in the state's delegation have voted to make those barriers even more difficult to overcome.
Congressman Ciscomani sponsored a bill this year which, in an attempt to make it more difficult for women to seek abortions, would limit health care coverage options for small businesses and could raise costs on abortion patients.
Congressman Schweikert has repeatedly sided with anti-abortion extremists: he cosponsored a federal ban on abortion and voted against protecting access to contraception.
"Congressmen Schweikert and Ciscomani have repeatedly voted against the economic best interests of Arizonans, including to limit abortion care options and raise costs on nearly all families," said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. "Schweikert and Ciscomani need to stop siding with anti-abortion activists and voting to increase health care costs for his constituents."
