Congressman Schweikert Votes to Give Tax Breaks to Billionaires, Corporate Interests

PHOENIX — Honest Arizona executive director Andrea Moreno today released the following statement after Congressman David Schweikert, who sits on the House Ways & Means Committee, voted to give massive tax breaks to wealthy Americans, foreign investors and corporations during a committee meeting, allowing the bill to move forward in the House:

"Arizonans want corporations and the wealthy to pay their fair share and they want their elected leaders to stand up for working families. Instead, Congressman Schweikert is again trying to give tax breaks to corporations and the wealthiest of the wealthy just weeks after voting to cut health care for thousands of Arizonans he represents. Congressman Schweikert needs to start looking out for his constituents, not his wealthy backers."

According to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, “the richest fifth of Americans would receive $60.8 billion in tax cuts” and foreign investors, “would ultimately receive $23.8 billion of the corporate tax cuts next year.”
