Honest Arizona: ‘Ciscomani Had Chance to Protect Lower Costs for Arizonans, Instead He Sided with Corporations’
TUCSON — Honest Arizona executive director Andrea Moreno released the following statement after Congressman Juan Ciscomani sided with his Republican colleagues to approve a funding bill that guts the popular Direct File program, benefiting corporations like Intuit TurboTax that have lobbied against efforts to make tax filing easier, and blocks the Biden administration’s proposed cap on credit card fees:
“Arizonans want to see their costs lowered, whether it’s filing their taxes for free with the new Direct File program, or capping late fees on their credit cards. Yet, Congressman Ciscomani has voted to block those provisions while siding with major corporations that want to keep charging Arizonans money. Instead, he’s voted multiple times to protect wealthy and corporate tax cheats from scrutiny while opposing lower costs for working Arizona families. Congressman Ciscomani: it’s time to look out for the bottom line of Arizona families, not corporations.”
If enacted, the appropriations bill that Congressman Ciscomani voted for last night would:
Block the popular Direct File program that allows Arizonans to file their taxes without having to pay corporations that charge fees to file taxes
Block the administration’s efforts to cap credit late fees at $8 and protect credit card companies that charge high fees
Make it harder for the IRS to go after wealthy and corporate tax cheats by repealing funding to crack down on wealthy and corporate tax cheats
