ICYMI: Arizonans Hold Press Conference to Call Out Ciscomani For Voting For Education Cuts

TUCSON — Tucson leaders and residents called out Congressman Juan Ciscomani for voting to cut funding for public schools that could impact hundreds of thousands of Arizona students and teachers and urged him to vote against any education cuts that come up for a vote in the coming months as Congress faces new funding deadlines in early March.

According to Univision, a bill that Congressman Ciscomani voted for would threaten the jobs of  around 4,200 teachers and staff members by cutting Title I education funding, which helps low-income students have access to quality education. Not only could this put thousands of Arizonans out of work, but, when students don’t get the education they deserve, the workforce and economy could be impacted for generations to come.

"The proposed House Republican budget is extreme and, if passed, it is set to have devastating effects on our public schools," said Chair for the Pima County Board of Supervisors, Adelita S. Grijalva. "I stand with community members in urging Republican lawmakers to vote against further cuts to education and to work with Democrats to fund education for the betterment of Arizona schools, and ensure Arizona students can succeed."
