ICYMI: One Year After Passage, the Inflation Reduction Act is Bringing $8.3 Billion in Clean Energy Investments and 12,000 Jobs to Arizona

PHOENIX — Arizonans are already seeing benefits from the one-year-old Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which passed despite opposition from every Republican in Congress, including Rep. David Schwiekert and every other Republican member of Arizona's congressional delegation. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, who was not in Congress when the bill passed, has said he opposes the once-in-a-generation investment in Arizona’s economy.

Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), $8.3 billion will be invested in Arizona to produce 13 new private clean energy projects and create more than 12,000 jobs in the state, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

According to KVOA in Tucson:

"The Inflation Reduction Act is a large legislative package that is aimed at fighting inflation, lowering deficit, reducing the price of prescription drugs for seniors, and reducing the country’s carbon emissions.

"The IRA’s investments will greatly improve Tucson by increasing the city’s durability toward harsh weather conditions and will greatly improve the environment for future generations."

The clean energy tax credit provisions in IRA that encourage private investment in renewable energy are under threat from a Republican tax bill that will benefit corporations and the ultra-wealthy while doing next to nothing for everyone else. House Republicans—including Schwiekert and Ciscomani—already voted for the “Default on America Act,” which would repeal the clean energy tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act and threaten the jobs created by these investments.

“The Inflation Reduction Act is working and we're already seeing its enormous benefits in Arizona,” said Andrea Moreno, executive director for Honest Arizona. “Congressional Republicans, including David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani should look for ways to make the bill stronger instead of trying to weaken it to give tax breaks to corporations and those at the very top.”
