Schweikert & Ciscomani Vote for Budget Resolution that Guts Medicaid, Food Assistance to Fund Tax Handout to The Wealthiest

PHOENIX — Congressmen David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani joined their Republican colleagues today to vote for a budget resolution that will gut Medicaid and nutrition assistance to fund trillions in tax breaks for the wealthiest and corporations.

Congressman Schweikert – a self-described ‘budget hawk’ – supports a bill that would add trillions to the nation’s debt. Meanwhile, Congressman Ciscomani, who represents one of the highest Medicaid population districts in the nation, and who previously warned against cuts to Medicaid, voted for a budget resolution that would do exactly that.

“Congressmen Schweikert and Ciscomani are supposed to be looking out for Arizonans, not billionaires, but their votes for massive tax breaks benefit those at the very top while Arizonans lose access to health care,” said Tucson resident Ramona Hensrude, who is visiting Washington, DC this week to urge Arizona’s congressional delegation to protect critical services. “Congressman Schweikert and Ciscomani broke their promise to Arizonans. It’s time they start looking out for their constituents and not the ultra-wealthy.”
