Schweikert Votes to Shut Government Down, Puts Extremism Over Constituents
PHOENIX — Honest Arizona executive director Andrea Moreno released the following statement after Congressman David Schweikert voted to shut the government down – despite an overwhelming bipartisan majority voting to keep it open – while threatening to raise costs and undermine Arizonans' access to hard-earned benefits:
“Arizonans expect their representatives to work together to look out for them, to protect their hard-earned benefits, and to keep the government open. Unfortunately, Congressman Schweikert is failing on all counts, most recently siding with extremists once again to shut the government down while demanding cuts to programs hardworking Arizonans rely on. A shutdown would be costly. Congressman Schweikert should work to keep the government open and reject cuts to community health centers that Arizonans rely on to receive their care, as well as cuts that could increase wait times for Arizona seniors to receive their hard-earned Social Security. Congressman Schweikert needs to stop demanding cuts that would harm Arizona families, and start looking out for their interests.”
