Schweikert Voted to Make Jim Jordan Speaker of the House

PHOENIX — Congressman David Schweikert voted today to make Jim Jordan, one of the most extreme members of the Republican caucus, Speaker of the House, thereby affirming their joint commitment to cut services for Arizonans while giving tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans and corporations.

Jordan yesterday announced a plan to pass across the board spending cuts ahead of the upcoming government funding deadline. The two congressmen voted multiple times to cut Medicare and Social Security as well as for the 2017 Trump tax bill that gave massive tax giveaways to those at the top while doing very little for everyone else.

“Congressman David Schweikert voted for Jim Jordan to put the wealthiest Americans ahead of his own constituents: both members have a long track record of voting to cut Social Security and Medicare, health care, and other critical services in exchange for tax giveaways for those at the very top,” said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. “Congressman Schweikert needs to look out for Arizonans, not Jim Jordan and his political backers.”
