Thanks to Inflation Reduction Act, Arizona to Pilot Free Tax Filing Program
Schweikert Voted 'No' on Inflation Reduction Act
PHOENIX — Thanks to the year-old Inflation Reduction Act, Arizonans will be able to file their taxes for free through a pilot program under the IRS.
Congressman David Schweikert voted against the Inflation Reduction Act, which made this new pilot program possible and empowered the IRS to go after wealthy tax cheats.
Free tax filing has long been opposed by Intuit, a paid online tax filing service. Intuit donated $2,500 to Congressman David Schweikert's campaign during the quarter that ended on September 30.
According to CNN:
“The IRS has seen years of reduced funding, resulting in a decrease in both staffing levels and audit rates. But thanks to the Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act, a sweeping federal spending package that passed Congress in 2022, the agency is set to receive a steady stream of long-term funding to help crack down on tax cheats and transform its operations.”
“Free tax filing just makes sense, and the Inflation Reduction Act's investment will save Arizonans time and money during tax season,” said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director for Honest Arizona. “By voting against the Inflation Reduction Act, Congressman David Schweikert voted to give Arizonans fewer options when filing their taxes and he voted to shield wealthy tax cheats from scrutiny. It's time Schweikert stopped siding with Intuit and tax cheats and started siding with Arizonans.”
