Schweikert’s Vote to Make Mike Johnson Speaker Is A Vote Against Arizonans’ Wallets
PHOENIX —Congressman David Schweikert today voted against his constituents’ best interests to make Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson the next Speaker of the House.
“Congressmen Schweikert and Mike Johnson’s voting records are virtually identical and Schweikert’s vote to make Johnson Speaker makes clear that he has chosen extremism, billionaires and corporations over the well-being of his own constituents,” said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. "Congressman Schweikert needs to show he can stand up to his party’s new Speaker in Washington and start looking out for seniors and working families in Arizona.”
Since Johnson was sworn into office in 2017, he and Schweikert have had virtually identical voting records:
both voted for the Trump tax scam that handed out benefits to the wealthy over middle- and low-income Arizonans
both voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act which would have eliminated health care access and made coverage unaffordable for hundreds of thousands of Arizonans
both voted against the Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the CHIPS Act
both are members of the Republican Study Committee that proposed cuts to Social Security and Medicare, including repealing Medicare’s ability to negotiate the cost of prescription drugs
